LGBT+ History Month Reading Group: 'On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous' by Ocean Vuong In-Person

As part of our Reading for Diversity series and in honour of LGBT+ History Month, the Library are teaming up with BookSoc to read and discuss ‘On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous’, Vietnamese- American poet Ocean Vuong’s stunning debut coming-of-age novel.

Chosen by University of Sheffield students, the novel is part epistolary, part autofiction, part lyric essay and follows the early life of a gay Vietnamese refugee negotiating the weight of his selfhood in a hostile environment. At its heart is a brief, tender relationship between the novel’s narrator, Little Dog, and Trevor, a teenager who seems doomed by the expectations of white American masculinity.

The Library has provided digital and print copies of the book and it is also available to purchase from most major book retailers. Book Soc also has a limited number of print copies available.

The discussion group will be held in the Digital Commons on Level 1 of the Information Commons.

Please note: This book contains topics that may be triggering to some people. Please contact the library if you have any concerns.
