Critical GenAI Literacy - understanding the implications of generative AI for your studies and beyond In-Person
This session explores “Critical GenAI Literacy”. In addition to understanding what generative AI (GenAI) is and how to use it, critical GenAI literacy involves looking more deeply at the limitations of GenAI and some of the problems it presents us with. This includes ethical and environmental implications, copyright and some of the wider impacts on society. It also includes some hands-on activity to introduce you to using GenAI, and looking at how you can evaluate its usefulness for your own studies.
This session is part of a GenAI themed afternoon at the Information Commons. You may also be interested in attending our Using AI and GenAI for information searching workshop. There will be a break between the sessions to enjoy refreshments and explore the Digital Commons including the 3D printing room, VR headsets, and sewing room. Feel free to come for the refreshments whether you are attending both sessions or just one.
